Introduction
Communication is an essential deliverable that facilitates the sharing of resources and in particular information. The world has been evolving as far as communication is concerned with the introduction of networks within the field , communication has seen great development. It was in 1970 that there was the establishment of the internet. The internet has been the greatest innovation that has led to the development of different technologies that facilitated the way resources got shared globally. The technique saw the world to look like a small village that any could navigate online. The realization of internet applied the protocol of IPv4 that has been in application since and up to date. The definition of the protocol failed to address the fact that the users of the internet were to grow. Later there was the development of the IPv5 and then the current new protocol of IPv6 which is the interest of the researcher.
The IPv6 Protocol
The adoption rate of the IPv6 protocol appreciates the fact that the world habitats can easily connect to the global network. The fact that mobile developers have enabled the devices to easily access the internet and such that most of electronic can be controlled by the internet as well, there is the demand for the IP addresses. The Ipv4 protocol is limited to the number of address paths hence the move towards the IPv6 that has no limited number of IP addresses that it can assign to the devices connecting to the global network (Beijnum, 2014). The adoption rate is debatable. However, it is noted of Belgium leading in the adoption of the IPv6 protocol followed with Greece, USA , Switzerland and Germany with percentages of 35.1%, 23.1%, 20.8%, 20.5%, 20.5% respectively (National Telecommunications and Information Administration , 2004)
The IPv6 protocol is defined to have some advantages rather great benefits over the IPv4 protocol. The most appreciated indeed is the fact that the IPv6 protocol stands to generate an unlimited number of IP addresses, unlike the IPv4 protocol that is limited to only around 4 billion IP addresses (Angelescu, 2010). The protocol is further defined by providing advanced security mechanism within the network. Specifically, the IPsec security measure is well implemented with the IPv6 as it enables the provision of the security measure functionalities at all levels within the network. The IPv6 protocol has shown the capability of improving the practices to do with network administration and management and the benefits have been the engineering tool towards its adoption (Brown & Parenti, 2002; Gaffin , 2007).
Conclusion
The IPv4 protocol was applied during the establishment of the internet, and it is still being applied, but it is a must that the world has to drop the protocol and adopt the IPv6 protocol. The adoption of the IPv6 protocol has been seen as a theory game as the practical adoption has not yet taken the pace as it is not seen in some nation only 76 nations of the world are adopting the protocol. The new IPv6 protocol is outlined with a lot of benefits that overdo the IPv4 protocol that has promised the necessary security that people are struggling to implement within the global network based applications. Therefore, the world should ease up the game and as whole develop the mechanism that will see through the development towards adopting the protocol as the speed of adoption is still below the speed that can mean the necessary seriousness of improving towards the new internet protocol.
